The Mattress Factory is a catalyst for connecting viewers to the creative practice of living artists and to the ideas and cultural expressions of our time. During its innovative history, the Mattress Factory has provided museum visitors with new ways for thinking about and experiencing art.
The Mattress Factory serves as an engaging and unusual learning environment that fosters creative thinking in audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Exhibitions, museum programming and interpretive materials encourage visitors to experience, investigate, understand and participate in the creative practice living artists undertake to make new site-specific, room-sized works called installations.
Educational programming is made possible with generous support from Allegheny Regional Asset District; American Eagle Outfitters Foundation; Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation; Jack Buncher Foundation; First National Bank; Sheila Fortune Foundation; Grable Foundation; Institute for Museum and Library Services; Maher Duessel, CPAs; Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; PNC Charitable Trusts; the Sprout Fund; UPMC Health Benefits.
