FREE with Museum Admission
Museum Lobby @ 500 Sampsonia Way
Mattress Factory artist Yayoi Kusama uses repetitive patterns to recreate the hallucinations that have been part of her life. It is impossible to view her pieces here at the Mattress Factory without also becoming part of the work itself. To further aid in, as Kusama called it, the "obliteration of self," join artist Sarah LaPonte to potato print t-shirts with neon repetitive patters to further integrate the viewer into Kusama's pieces. Once you wear your finished t-shirt into one of Kusama's installations, you truly become part of the artwork! All materials are provided, free with museum admission.
Twice a month, on the first and third Saturdays, visitors are invited to participate in a range of art-making activities that illuminate the creative process of in-residence artists. Projects and materials are developed to complement current and ongoing exhibitions. This program is free with museum admission and highly recommended for individuals or families with children of all ages.
Mattress Factory Education and Community progams are made possible by the generous support from the Allegheny Regional Assets District, Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Jack Buncher Foundation, Sheila Fortune Foundation, Grable Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Surdna Foundation.
